Recently traveled in a southwest airline jet and the windows were so dirty. Has the airline industry gone downhill in terms of cleanliness?

I think you’re somewhat right. These planes don’t get too much of a chance to be "deep cleaned". Planes only make money when they’re flying, though, so the airlines don’t want to spend too much time in between flights cleaning the plane.

southwest airlines?

does southwest airlines website allow you to reserve your seat?

No. Southwest has only experimented with seat selection on a test basis and the results so far haven’t been encouraging to those who desire that particular aisle or window seat. The hang-up is Southwest Airlines desire to turn around a Boeing 737 in fifteen minutes, and the quick boarding simplicity of the unassigned seat has worked for them since the 1970’s. As long as the traveling public will put up with the "thundering herd" loading process and continue to keep Southwest in the top tier of favorite airlines it’s unlikely to change.

I heard Southwest is one of the worse airlines, and a lot of people don’t like the way they treat customers. I never flown Southwest, but I’ve heard alot of bad things about them.

If you ever had a bad experience with Southwest, what happened? Did you become a victim that go bumped-off an overbooked flight? If you got bumped, did they get you on the net flight?

Every airline has their bad days. When I was in the industry, my boarding gate was right next to theirs, and the thing that struck me about them is, they treat their employees very well. If you have happy people working for you, you have a great product.
The only issue that I see that they have now is the maintenance on their 737s, they have some severe fuselage cracks, and that has created some bad situations for them recently.

Every airline is struggling now so the execs figured that the only way to remain profitable right now is to reduce the number of flights and keep every flight full. In order to do that, the reservations agents had to add two more non-existing seats to the flight so that in case someone misses the flight, there’s still somebody that will take that seat. That creates over sold situations.
If at the end of the flight, there is still passengers that cannot fly, by law the airline has to get on whatever next flight there is.
The thing about Southwest is, the only other airline that the passenger can go on, is Air-Tran. So if you’re bumped off a flight with Southwest, there is only one other airline by contract that they can fly you on.
Now, if you were with American, Delta, or any other major airline, there is a whole list of airlines they can fly you with, since they can all code-share with each other.

I would like to find out if this was Southwest or another airline that did this commercial. I think it was back around 2000. I looked all over the web and YouTube. Help please!

Sorry; can’t say for sure, but for some reason it sounds like a Hawaiian Airlines commercial…

I am traveling with Southwest Airlines, and I was wondering if packaged food and drinks are allowed in checked baggages?

Thanx!

yes, they are allowed on checked, but only less than 3 oz are allowed on carryon

I’m 17 years old and from reading the unaccompanied minors policies and such on the southwest airlines website, it isn’t clear to me if whether or not being 17 counts for the extra service fees and documentation.

No you do not. Southwest lets kids over 11 fly as adults. all airlines let kids over 15 fly as adults…so you do not need to do any extra paperwork.

I want a promotion code for Southwest Airlines. Does anyone know the code or have a site? Thankyou

Im trying to get back to Montana sumwhere close to great falls like billings or helena, i saw that southwest airlines is like less than $100 so what is a site that sells them just as cheap?

I usually start looking on http://www.orbitz.com/ which will list multiple airlines with their respective fares.

Southwest Airlines is going to extend their schedule on 11/6. I’m wondering if anybody knows approximately what time of day they typically do this? Thanks!

nope

i want to fly for southwest airlines but i want to live in new york… i know that pilots are assigned bases, where can i find out where different bases are? thanks so much

Yes and no. Southwest does not have a domicile at any of the NYC area airports (JFK, EWR, or LGA). A domicile is where a flight crewmember starts and ends all their trips. Every pilot and flight attendant will be assigned to a domicile, and all of their trips will start and end there. But, many pilots and flight attendants commute, which means that they live in a different city than their domicile. As I said, there is no Southwest domicile around NYC. Infact, they do not fly to any of the NYC airports at all, but they do fly to Islip, out on long island. They fly there non-stop from Baltimore, as well as a few other places. Southwest does have a large domicile in Baltimore. So, you would easily be able to commute from Islip to Baltimore for free. But, you would need to be based in BWI, and it may take a while to be based there (Oakland is actually the most junior domicile at Southwest, which means you would probably go there first and then transfer to BWI later). Many airlines also have jumpseat agreements, which mean that you can travel for free on Other Airlines. Pilots can travel for free on almost all domestic flights. But flight attendants are often limited as to what airlines they can fly on for free. So, you may or may not be able to commute from a NYC area airport to BWI. Commuting is really hard. I did it for a year and hated it. I would strongly suggest either moving to a domicile, or looking at airlines based in NYC if you want to stay there. Delta, America, US Airways, Continental, JetBlue, and a bunch of regional airlines all have domiciles at one of the three NYC area airports (JFK, EWR, or LGA). So if you want to stay in NYC, I would suggest one of them. But if you have your heart set on Southwest, you should be prepared to move if you find it too hard to commute.
