I will be travelling with my 12 year old son in December on American Airlines, what is the best way to ask for an upgrade from Economy?

1) get out your credit card, or a fistful of $

or

2) get out your Advantage card to let them deduct the miles

I want to fly from Chicago to Kodiak, AK, then from Anchorage to Chicago using my American Airline aadvantage miles. I would have to use Alaska Airlines for this and one one flight Alaska’s codeshare partner PenAir. I know that AA and Alaska have a point share agreement, but can I use my miles for this itineary. Thanks for your help.

You can definitely do an open jaw ticket, but it all depends on the availability that Alaska Airlines has in award seating at the time of booking. You should call American AAdvantage award travel desk at 1-800-882-8880 to discuss your itinerary.

Would like to know if anyone knows of a hotel in Dallas, Texas that has a shuttle service to get to the American Airlines Center?

Good parking as well.

The W Hotel (as previously recommended) is VERY nice but VERY expensive. The Ghost Bar inside the W is a great place to chill.

You will not have to drive to AAC from the W. It’s walkable.

Alternatively, you can stay at the Adam’s Mark hotel or the Fairmont. Both in downtown Dallas. Then take the train to AAC (they run directly to the arena when there is an event). There are cheaper Hotels, with obviously fewer amenities.

Street parking is available in downtown Dallas but it is not free during daylight hours. Compared to other big cities the parking lot rates are reasonable. I would not park on the street or in a street level lot after dark though- you’re liable to have your car broken into. Use the hotel garage instead.

Welcome to Dallas!

I know that American airlines is co-shared with Qantas with flights to the U.S but i was wondering why themselves they don’t fly to Australia at all when other U.S airlines do. I want to go on American Airlines cause i haven’t flown on them before but to the US you fly on Qantas not american because it is a co-shares airline. If anyone knows why they don’t fly to aus, or anyone knows if they are going to start, please tell me i really want to know! Best answer will be chosen :) Thanks.

They’re a company, and their goal is to make as much money as possible (while still being safe, obeying the law, etc.)

So, simply put: if they don’t fly that route, it’s because they think they can make more money putting the plane(s) that would be necessary for that onto a different route instead.

American airlines?

Sep-18-2009 By admin

my mom says american airlines for international is not good why does she say that?
my mom meant their service

Well She says that because, she probably doesn’t like them either because there is a fact that you are treated like cattle, or bad service, bacause I remember on my trip to Zurich, there was nothing good, in economy, you don’t even get a meal the stewardess just sort slaps a snack box on your tray table, and the seating is so tight, it is like trying to fit five people in a Lexus SC430. Another reason is probably because during the flight there was just one screen for every 5 rows and the movie i watched was playing over and over around a with no sound, i am sure that is why.

I am flying with my daughter for the first time flying American Airlines from St Louis to Atlanta. Do I need to take her car seat or can we just use the lap belts in the seat? Is there a weight or age that you have to be before you can use just the lap belts? Also, does anyone know if St Louis airport has weekly parking rates or is it just by the day? Thanks!
She weighs around 46 lbs. I have a convertible car seat that we now use without the straps, just use the regular car belts. Is that good enough? I read some sites that said you can’t use booster seats. So, I’m not sure if my carseat is considered a booster seat since it does have a back on it.

At this age she doesn’t need her car seat, but I would recommend it. She is still young and small enough that the airline seat belts will not fit properly around her little waist and could pose a danger during turbulent weather. Better to be safe than sorry.

I also advise using a CRS (Child Restraint System - otherwise know as a car seat) because apart from it is safe for the child - especially during turbulence, it makes them feel secure.

A CRS is a hard-backed child safety seat that is approved by the government for use in both motor vehicles and aircraft.

This website talks about approved CRS devices and their ratings: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/CPS/CSSRating/Index.cfm

Many airlines offer half-price tickets so parents can be guaranteed that their child can travel in a CRS device. You should call your airline to ask for a discount and/or ask what the airline’s policy is for using empty seats.

I’ve been flying internationally and domestically with my children since they were 2 months (now 7&5). Here are some more tips and advice that have always worked for me and I hope will help you:

1.) You will need to have all your babys documents in order. It is a good idea to keep a copy of her notarized birth certificate with you. If you plan to travel internationally, you will need a passport and possibly a visa for your child as well. Verify what travel documents you will need in advance to make sure you have everything.

2.) For take-offs and landings, the best thing you can do to help with the ear popping, is give your child a something to drink (milk, water, juice - it doesn’t matter) or a pacifier.

New regulations allow you to take beverages (including water) from home as long as they are less than 3oz, -OR- beverages (including water) of any size that you have purchased from inside the security area onto planes. You can also bring a limited amount of baby food onto the plane with you. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#10

Save your money when it comes to buying water though because the Flight Attendants will provide you with hot or cold water (or any other drink) free at any time that you request, no matter how many times you request it.

Another trick is that if your child is not taking to the pacifier or wanting to drink, gently rub her neck from the chin down to the chest several times - this will cause a swallowing motion which will help with the ears popping.

3.) Make sure to pack plenty of things to entertain your child, such as books, a few toys, and any comfort things such as a favorite blankie or stuffed animal.

I would also advise that you take your daughter to the store and let her pick out her own carry on bag. Allow her to buy a few inexpensive toys that will be used only once on the plane as well. This will help to keep her entertained during the flight, and excited about going on the flight. Make sure to also buy her a few things for her bag without her seeing so that she will have a surprise when she opens her bag.

4.) Be sure to pack 2-3 changes of clothes for your child. You will need this in case she gets sick, spills something on herself, or in case your luggage gets lost.

5.) Keep your diaper bag well stocked with plenty of the things you may need -diapers, wipes, ointments and other essential things. Baby nail clippers and scissors are not allowed though. Just remember the new regulating liquids, gels, and such and pack accordingly. You can usually find travel size baby products in stores and they are wonderful for plane use.

You should be respectful of other passengers and always change your child’s diaper in the restroom. They do have diaper bed changers in there, although they can be a little small.

6.) Keep your doctors name and number with you. Also get the name and number of a doctor where you are visiting in case an emergency should come up.

It is a good idea to have a check-up with your doctor before leaving to make sure your child is healthy enough to fly. If she has even a slight cold, the pressure in her ears during take-off and landing (even if you do the precaution methods) could leave her ears aching for days after the flight.

Most doctors recommend that if anyone is sick (such as being stuffed up or already having an earache), not to take the flight because of the potential damage to the ears. I know my husband and other pilots do not work if they are sick because of this danger.

7.) Bring any medications that you might need for your child should she get sick or that she takes regularly. Remember that if they are not prescription medications, the 3oz rule applies to them and they must be kept in a clear plastic bag.

Do NOT give your child medicine with the hopes of it making her sleep. This is not only cruel, but dangerous as well.

8.) Last but not least, if help is offered to you, take it.

I want to take a round trip to iowa from los Angeles using American airline’s frequent flier program. The trip is about 3000 miles round trip and I have over 4000. What is the minimum number of miles needed to redeem for a plane ticket? They don’t make it clear on the website. Im not going to stay in a hotel, I am staying with family. Thank you!

Cashing in your miles for flights is easy. From the "Redeem Miles" tab on the website, plug in your travel dates and hit "Go!" The best value in flight redemption is with MileSAAver trips, which are 25,000 miles, round trip. The next level is AAnytime Fares, which are 50,000 points, round trip.

in all my id my middle name is written before my first name, so when i was booking my airplane ticket with american airlines, i put my first name (which to evryone it wud b my middle name) and my last name. its written ex: costa stephanie cinani…i refer to myself as stephanie not costa..so is that gonna be a problem going through al the security stuff at the airport?.

I have the same situation, not any problems so far.
good luck and enjoy your trip

My original departure was sometime at the end of July but I decided I wanted to stay a few extra weeks. Is it possible to move my departure date? I’m sure there are fess involved but I need to know the price of the fees. I bought the ticket with travelocity and i tried contacting them and they were no help. But the airline was American Airlines. Thanks for any help. :)
The fees may vary with whether the trip is domestic or international, the "fare basis" of the ticket you bought, and even frequent flyer status. Only AA can tell you for sure.

Yeah that’s basically it…I need to pick up a dog at the airport that’s coming in on an American Airlines flight into Newark airport. I don’t know what terminal or where to go once I get to the airport? Does anyone know?? Thanks!!
The dog isn’t being shipped today, but later in the week.
I figured it out - in case anyone else ever needs to know, I picked him up at the American Airlines baggage claim in terminal A.

Call the Newark airport or call who shipped the dog. Good luck.

Flights are canceled due to bad weather at the moment. There are regulations and restrictions on shipping animals in increment weather.
