So i want to boook a plane ticket in a few weeks…I want to go to Portland and go golfing. I would have to bring my set of clubs along, and I am wondering how much Northwest Airlnes/Delta Airlines would charge me for luggage fee ? I am wondering how much each way ..PLEASE HELP!

First checked bag $15, 2nd $25

# Northwest will accept baggage up to a maximum of 50 pounds (23 kg) and a total linear dimension of 62 inches (158 cm) per piece.
# Additional charges apply for baggage weighing more than 50 pounds (23 kg) or with a total linear dimension of more than 62 inches (158 cm) per piece.

I’m thinking of flying with NWA, but I haven’t booked my tickets yet. Will be flying from LAX to Singapore. Since NWA is the cheapest, I’m thinking of going with them. I read some reviews that it’s not the best airline to fly with, especially the food (but maybe different people has different taste), and that you don’t have your private screen monitor for movies and stuff.

Does the airline have any recent crashes? And what about their FA service? Some reviews I read says they were rude, and I’m assuming that’s because they had a strike and that they were overworked and underpaid. I guess since I’m being cheap about this trip, I shouldn’t complain too much, but my main concern is the safety and if they are on time, cos I have to catch another plane ride when I get to Singapore.

Re: crashes -
In the last 10 years, since Jan 1, 1999 through today, there have been 40 incidents recorded by the NTSB for Northwest Airlines. None of these were crashes in the sense you are probably thinking of - these have been ground incidents, significant turbulence, some instrument malfunction, blown tires and so on. The only fatality in that time was 1 ground crew employee, when a tow tractor collided with a plane while it was parked at a gate.

You can do your own search as far back as 1962, and read details of any incident here:
http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/query.asp

As for everything else - as you say - everyone’s taste is different; there are rude employees in any company (though you would hope there would be fewer in an airplane crew), percent on time in the past is not always indicative of the performance on any single flight - weather, mechanical and air traffic control issues are often unpredictable.

Sometimes you get what you pay for - i.e. cheap flight - cheap service, other times not, and I suspect that you and anyone else who travels on the same flight as you might have very different interpretations of your shared experience - depends a lot on an individual’s personality and expectations. Reviews are quite helpful, but when I look at them for a place or an item I am interested in, I am always struck by how completely opposite opinions the reviewers often have. No question that it makes it hard to know how much reliability to put on any review.

Whatever you decide, I do hope you have a pleasant, on time, flight

I’m taking a trip to the Manila, Philippines from North Carolina and I wanted to know what to expect on all the flights over there. So if you could tell me a little about the airline and what to expect that would be great!!!

depends on the plane you have and route taken. i have flown with them all over and they are better than some other services…they have a nice one from california to japan/bangkok…with on demand videos, games and entertainment. they always give more food then you really need. enjoy your trip.

Asking from Japan.
I’m always Northwest. I know I can buy Ticket NWA website, but I am looking for cheaper fare .
Please let me know good Tavel Agent in Manila.

need to : use Japan issued credit card, must have website.

I think its better from their website than any other as they may not accept it or may have trouble.Usually big sites like travelocity, etc. have a good fare.

This could be a great opportunity for you to earn a bonus 20,000 ("WorldPerks") miles in the Northwest Airlines promotional program called "the Great Race"

Please see http://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=2&tid=35103082 for more info.

I am not affiliated with Northwest Airlines in any way, except in the sense of being a member of their World Perks program - - and prepared to help YOU (and myself) earn a bonus 20,000 miles!

Best wishes,

Rex, a physician, in Indiana

I was, but read the rules first and found out I was disqualified. It’s a program to try to bring back people who enrolled in Worldperks but barely use it. If you have earned any Worldperks miles since Jan. 1, 2006 you are ineligible.

Anyone Flown NWA recently?

Recently I was on Northwest Airlines from Chicago to New Orleans. The first flight was delayed because the flaps on the plane were stuck down… 2 Hours later finally got to leave chicago.
Then when i switched planes in Memphis I noticed that the plane appeared to be very old. The seats were obviously worn out to the point where the stitching was coming out. The windows looked to be scratched very badly and the plane was filthy dirty.
On the way back to Chicago my flight was delayed because of an "equipment problem that was not disclosed". Now i am aware
that Northwest Airlines is having trouble financially but these planes are not SAFE!!!
These flights were on DC9 and CRJ equipment.
Northwest really needs to retire the antique DC9 aircraft.

How do you know these airplanes are unsafe? Do you have a powerplant and airframe license? You’ve got pukeing passengers, destructive vandal teens, and people who whine, complain and moan about everything- example- they over eat, so they blame the airlines when their size 50 butt won’t fit in a standard 190 pound persons seat.

Theres no excuse for dirty, however this is the summertime, every airplane that can be made safely to fly IS flying and I promise between August 31st, and November 15th, that airplane will be cleaned- usually professionally by a 3rd party vendor contractor.

Thanks in advance. I need to buy 2 adult tickets and 1 kid ticket to BKK from OKC from Northwest Airline. Each one of us has worldperks miles (Me 74,959, Wife 64,604, Kid 21,564 miles). Each ticket requires 90,000 miles. What’s the best way to use worldperk miles in my situation. Do I buy them separately under each ones’ account instead of me booking for all of us? Can miles be combined to make a one purchase? And how about if I buy ticket just for myself, I need to purchase additional 90,000-74,959=15,041 miles. I thought that the limit I can buy for myself is 15,000 miles per year. Anyway around it? Please suggest. Thanks.
Thanks everyone for the answers. I like Carlos idea: "My suggestion, buy cheap fares to BKK and buy up-grades to First and/or Business with your Miles." but I need some more elaboration. Can anyone help please how to go about doing this? I’ve never use points to buy or upgrade tickets before. Thanks.

You generally cannot combine miles in programs and usually the cost to purchase miles isn’t worth it. My suggestion would be to contact NWA and ask them for an exception. They’ll probably tell you no, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. 1-800-447-3757

NWA E-Certificate Codes?

Sep-16-2009 By admin

I was wondering if anyone had a coupon from Northwest Airlines. They are called E-Certificates. I usually get them in the mail but haven’t received any lately and was wanting to book a flight to NYC. Travel dates will be completed by Nov. 2. I will be traveling in Zone A (I think that’s right anyway) There are usually two different numbers/codes that you have to enter. I have tried searching numerous websites to find great deals but haven’t had much luck. So, if you have one of those little NWA flyers laying around could you answer me back with all the codes on it and the price for traveling in Zone A (will be going from Nebraska to New York). I would greatly appreciate it!
I’m asking on a public forum b/c sometimes people receive them and have no intentions on using them and they end up getting thrown away. The other reason is, is that’s it’s a generic code, meaning the same code is printed on thousands of those coupons. The code isn’t specific to that one coupon. Just wanted to clarify.

Unfortunately i cant help with the E-Certificates but i do know of a good website for Promo Codes those might help.

P.S. Try not to go telling this website to a lot of people its nice when its not known by a lot of people. Thanks

I just moved to Boston, from Italy, 4 months ago. As soon as I arrived I applied for a Costumer Service Agent position with almost every Airline. Two months ago I got a job offer fron Northwest airlines, the human processing was long, almost a month, I went to training in Detroit for 2 weeks, and now I am working at Logan Int. Airport, but 2 weeks ago I also got a call from U.S airways, they wantyed to interview me, I just thought I would go and see what they could offer me. They offerd me almost the same things that NWA does. Only thing is I coould get medical benefits even if I am part-time. Now the issue is : I am confused. I want to know which airline is a better airline. US. Airways or NWA?
If anyone of you knows about airlines please help me !
Thanks
Teresa.

Northwest is a bigger company
Northwest has been in Bankruptcy since Fall of 2005

so both pro/con for NW

Go for the US Airways interview and hear what they have to say -
it cant hurt
as long as you dont have to relocate.. (and you dont want to ?)

Take the US airway’s offer- insurance and NOT in bankruptcy
