Online Tickets and Airline Travel

Archive for May, 2009

I am traveling from Charlotte to Frankfurt, Germany. I will have a stopover at Philadelphia and I am traveling after May 5. Now, can I have a second checked in bag free on my flight from Charlotte to Philly? I made one single reservation for my flights. Can someone who knows better tell me? I asked the US airways toll free but they don't seem to understand my case, their website also does not make this point clear.

only for 1st ck bag is free. after that its a fee.

is travelocity.com legit tickets or should i just go to my airport and purchase tickets?

Anyone that has traveled, where do you get your tickets?

There is absolutely no problem with e-tickets of the type you would get through travelocity, expedia, orbitz, hotwire, etc., and we've taken many flights using them.

At first, we had doubts but have never been disappointed. Be sure and print out a few copies so you'll always have extras, just in case.

By the end of 2007, paper tickets might become a thing of the past, at least that's what the IATA is trying to do.

You can still get tickets directly from the airlines but it's easier to use the internet for comparison shopping.

Southwest Airlines frequently advertises its $59.00 deals, but try and book a useful flight to a mainstream destination, and you'll end up with a price quote WELL above $59.00. Has anyone ever actually secured one of these deals? If so, what was your destination, and where did you fly from? Just curious….

Yes I have - from Amarillo to Vegas for 99 each way. And Amarillo to Dallas for 49. To get one of their special deals, you have to be going to the right place from the right place - so I just check their website once a month to see what kind of deal they have and if it is something I can do. Oh and you have to buy the tickets at least two weeks in advance to get one of the deals.

Is it safe to purchase online?

Hey, so im looking at plane tickets to Venice from Detroit
and i found the best one!
anyways… its on Cheapoair.com
is it safe to purchase it off that site?
will i be garaunteeed that ill have no problems at the airport?

thanks!
ella
yah i thought so too
but i looked up flights on their websites
and this one is a heck of a lot cheaper,
so just wanted to know if it was safe or not to purchase online

I would always book directly with the airlines. So if something was to go wrong, it can be fixed easier. These companies can pull out huge loopholes in the Terms and Conditions that you dont know about but the airlines have a harder time doing that.

always book with the airlines for peace of mind.

and to add to Jess' remark on hidden fees; you dont know what those companies are charging you. If they really wanted to, they could put (and may have) a $20 credit credit card surcharge, a $10 booking fee. Yeah, still cheaper - but what if you need to change your plans. Then you must forfiet your whole fare. If you book with the airlines, you can generally negotiate a deal to re use your fare - you cant to that with those stupid ompanies like expedia, cheapoair, travelocity and priceline!!

just be careful.

Dear Orbitz Customer,

Thank you for contacting Orbitz.

In reviewing your 'My Trips' and our reservation system, I show that you have a credit for future travel applied to your canceled reservation titled 'Kingston 12/25/05' under the e-mail address
'aaa@yahoo.com'.

When using the credit, please contact us via phone at 1-888-656-4546 where our representative will assist you in purchasing a reservation with the credit earned.

Expect to pay $100 airline imposed change fee, $30 Orbitz service fee and any difference in airfare per ticket.

The credit can only be used upto one year from the original date of
purchase of the canceled reservation i.e. until November 21, 2006.

Also, the credit from the canceled reservation can only be used by the person who was originally booked on the flight. The airline, too, has to be the same. The departure and destination cities can be different. However,

You need to walk down there in person and pistol whip somebody in the face.

I remember not to long ago their was talk about a Northwest Airlines and Delta Airlines merger. What happened to all of it? Did congress not approve or something wierd like that?

It’s a done deal…the DoJ just okayed the deal saying that it is not in restraint of trade.

I'm wanting to get a plane ticket from detroit to memphis this friday. Its already Monday though, and I don't know if to use your miles it has to be ordered in advanced. It will be free using my miles, if i have to pay it will cost $800.

The sooner you call the better. Airlines only allow a small number of seats that can be redeemed by using frequent flyer miles. With the airlines cutting back on the number of flights, that means less seats available to those who want to fly for free.

In light of increased gas prices at the pump, the lives of many North Americans are changing. Airlines are charging for bags and soon they will be for drinks. Peoples' summer roadtrips, an annual event, are being modified or cancelled. These are only two of the things that are happening as high oil prices plague Canada and North America.

Here, in Vancouver, Canada, the gas price shot up to an average 1.45c/litre only last weekend, and, next to Newfoundland, has some of the highest gas prices in the entire country. (1.45c/litre is the equivalent of over 5 dollars for a gallon in America; down in Washington they paid about 4.10-20ish last time I was there about a month ago)

I was just wondering: what are your thoughts on the energy crisis? Causes, solutions, etc.? What do you think will happen in the near future?

Opportunistic greed is the simple description of energy shortages.

Hydro electric, geothermal, and solar energy can satisfy global demands. Profit motives direct policy toward fossil fuel habitual consumption.

Ethical and moral decisions by a more knowledgeable general public will direct policy changes.

Profit of a select elite few is adversarial to the best interests of general public. While media and public relations manipulate the conversation it appears that special interests enjoy an economic advantage. On the real scale of space and time, this is a momentary anomaly. Survival will be the leveling factor.

Also is it better to book round trip or two one way trips? Please include websites and airlines that you have used. Thanks a bunch!

yahoo.com
expedia.com
priceline.com

Sometimes the airline's own website offers deals not found anywhere else. Start with checking out the local website for your destination, so you'll know which airlines service that area and go from there, so you'll avoid checking airlines that don't even go to where you want to go.

enjoy the trip

The constant drive for increased profits while keeping ticket pricing affordable has led the airlines to do a number things here are a few:
1.Aircraft designed for maximum seat capacity, range and fuel efficiency
2.Overbooking flights to ensure full passenger loads
3.Canceling flight that don’t fill up
4.As few aircraft types as possible to simply maintenance overhead and pilot training (Southwest Airlines only has one type: Boeing 737)
5.Fast turnovers
6.Lower salaries for employees, especially new hire pilots
7.Use of layovers
8.Seat-yourself with coach only (Southwest)
9.Increased baggage charges
So, the tradeoff is the cost of efficiency vs. customer convenience. Unfortunately, the airlines are constantly decreasing the customer convenience while maintaining the same ticket cost, and now they are throwing in additional charges, and the Southwest buisness model is becoming more popular for regonal airlines.
